How should I select a dealer?
What´s the difference between hardwire and wireless systems?
As the name implies, hardwire systems are connected by wires that are strung through walls, floors and ceilings. In contrast, wireless systems rely on a radio communications link and eliminate the need for expensive wiring. While it may take several days to install a hardwire panel in a typical home or business, an Inovonics wireless system can be installed, and configured in less than a day. As an added advantage, installers can place a sensor exactly where it is needed, without drilling holes in your walls and ceilings or ismantling your baseboard and moldings.
Wireless is also the ideal alternative to hardwired installations in a wide range of applications--in older buildings with historical or aesthetic value, in pre-fabricated concrete buildings, buildings with glass atriums, or any facility that would require a difficult and costly wire run. Wireless also gives you the freedom to upgrade your system at any time with minimal disruption to your home or business. And, if you move, you can take the system with you.
What´s the difference between 900MHz and 300MHz systems?
Make no mistake: all wireless systems are not created equal. Most wireless systems still operate on outdated 300MHz technology, the same 20-year-old platform that likely operates your garage door opener. Inovonics wireless is based on advanced 900MHz spread-spectrum technology. Because FCC regulations permit higher transmit power for 900MHz systems, Inovonics wireless offers superior in-building range and up to 10 times the open field range of other wireless security products. Inovonics systems can even protect multiple buildings, parking structures or detached garages from a central location.
What is supervision and why is it important?
Supervision, or self-testing, is the term that is applied to a security system´s self-diagnostics. In order to ensure reliable trouble-free operation, wireless transmitters regularly send a check-in" signal to the receiver to verify that the communications path is open and that the sensor is functioning. Some wireless systems only perform a self-test once every 24 hours. Others don´t even bother to verify the communications link at all. But with Inovonics wireless, transmitters can send check-in signals as often as every 10 seconds, allowing you to detect a missing or malfunctioning transmitter in less than one hour. In contrast, it can take some wireless systems up to 24 hours to detect a malfunctioning transmitter.
Will wireless work in a commercial environment?
In many commercial environments, ambient RF signals or signals from other wireless devices can interfere with a wireless security system´s ability to operate effectively. But since Inovonics wireless products are based on spread-spectrum technology, reliability and range are maximized even in "noisy" environments. Inovonics wireless is the only wireless security system based on proprietary Frequency AgileŽ 900MHz technology. By sending completely redundant signals, on a multitude of channels, across a 10MHz band, Inovonics wireless products maximize reliability.
Are wireless systems more difficult to operate?
Even though our wireless security products are based on a sophisticated radio communications protocol, you don´t need an advanced degree in electrical engineering to operate an Inovonics security system. There are no annoying, confusing codes or technical jargon to decipher. And you won´t have to read through reams of documentation to change system settings. When a sensor is tripped, you are notified on an easy-to-read display that immediately identifies and locates the problem. You can even arm or disarm your system using remote controls.
What should I look for in a dealer?
Above all, beware of dealers who recommend one-size-fits-all solutions. Every business is different. Every home has unique requirements. With the help of a factory-authorized Inovonics dealer, you can develop a customized and cost-effective security system that´s right for you. The Inovonics dealer is a member of a select group of security professionals with the experience and the expertise to solve your security problems. Instead of applying cookie-cutter solutions, your Wireless Guardian dealer will study your situation from every conceivable angle. Instead of selling the same old one-size-fits-all approach, your Wireless Guardian dealer will recommend a unique solution that protects both your business and your bottom line.
